Dak Prescott just threw for 4,552 yards. The board still says don't reach.

Dak Prescott played in all 17 games last season—actually all 17, no holding out, no rests—and threw for 4,552 yards and 30 touchdowns. He also threw 10 interceptions, but the efficiency line is the one that moves drafts: one touchdown per 20 attempts with no interception spike in any single month. That is the rate of a top-five quarterback on a full season of work.

Ball Ranks projects him for 235.7 PPR points in 2026 and ranks him 71st overall, QB5. His ADP of 65.3 is six picks earlier — the market is paying a slight premium over our number for the position's safest floor. That is a defensible premium. It is still a premium.

The second half was real, but it was not a decline

Dak threw 16 touchdowns and 4 interceptions in his first nine weeks of play. In weeks 11–18 (the second half minus the bye), he threw 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. On volume—600 total pass attempts—that split holds up. But the games themselves tell you it was not inefficiency. Week 18 was a rest situation: Dak took 11 attempts in what was essentially a playoff-seeding game already decided.

Exclude the Week 18 cleanup and Dak's real second half reads 14 touchdowns and 6 interceptions across seven full games — still a full workload, still an elite rate. His per-game scoring barely moved between halves: 18.8 PPR points early, 18.1 late.

The Cowboys never benched him, never reduced his role, and kept calling plays that suited his strengths. That continuity is rare. It is the foundation of a stable projection.

The system stays intact, and so does the starter

Brian Schottenheimer returned as head coach. Klayton Adams, the offensive coordinator since 2025, is known for run-game design and blocking schemes; he came to Dallas from Arizona where he coached the offensive line during a run-heavy system. The two of them have already built their offense around Dak's arm talent and decision-making. Neither is going anywhere.

The depth chart shows no threat — Joe Milton backs him up, and Dak's 95.1% snap share in 2025 sets the expectation. CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens return as the lead receivers, and tight end Jake Ferguson remains the first look in the red zone. Nothing broke and nothing is broken.

The honest wrinkle is the market's patience

Our projection of 235.7 points prices in some of Dak's older-than-average-starter wear-and-tear. If everything holds—no injuries, same offensive line, same coordinators—he can clear 260 points and approach QB3 finishes. That is the ceiling embedded in the model.

But Dak turned 33 this offseason, entering his eleventh NFL season, and his durability record is not bulletproof: the 2020 ankle fracture and the 2024 hamstring that cost him half a season are both on the ledger. Quarterbacks his age are usually fine. "Usually" is doing work in that sentence at a 313-point baseline.

The pricing context matters too. Our board has Josh Allen as the top quarterback at pick 28, then a cluster — Drake Maye, Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow — between picks 47 and 60, with Dak at 71 closing the tier. The market compresses that gap: at 65.3, Dak costs nearly what Burrow does. We would rather have Burrow's ceiling at that price, or Dak half a round later.

The verdict

Wait the extra half round if you can — our rank of 71 is the price where Dak becomes a bargain rather than a fair deal. If he goes at his 65.3 ADP, let him: the difference between QB5 and the quarterbacks drafted around him is smaller than the draft capital saved. If he slides to the late sixth, take the safest 17-game floor at the position and spend your earlier picks on the volatile spots.
